Cover Your Hands In Dirt I Say:)

Hello my Darlin dears, wonderful meadow creatures that sleep amongst the cucumbers & Melons, & you wonderful Gnomes who might not be all that great at building fence, but they are good at making a good lavender lemonade to enjoy while doing so:)

Miss Lamb your girl of the meadow and farmer of cheese here,

Well, I have a favor to ask...

It is one that helps not only me, but has the potential to help nearly every farmer in the state of Oklahoma & beyond....

I would like for you to write a letter:)

A Letter to Congressman Frank Lucas:)

As I have discussed many times here on the EBA Chronicles, we are on the precipice of the Farm Bill, and the representative in my region of the state, and the Chairman of the Ag Committee in congress happens to be Frank Lucas...

What I have been asking a few of my farmer friends, and other individuals who believe in good/ whole-hearted food, is to sign a mass letter I wrote. It shall be hand delivered to Congressman Frank Lucas & WILL be read. BELEIVE me so... My time is very valuable to me and I do not invest in futile and half-hearted efforts... my whole heart was buried long ago in the dirt of Oklahoma, and I have given myself over to rich and thriving growth... just call me an Orchard...

Not only can you print out the letter, that I will send to you if you simply email me:
samantha@youngfarmers.org
Or
earlybirdacres@gmail.com

...& then sign the letter, but I encourage you as either a farmer or a believer in good sustainable food to write a personal note to Frank about you and your life, and tell him what Sustainable Farming means to you... & if you yourself are a young farmer (you do not haft to be young to be a young farmer... just new to farming) or know a young farmer, explain to Frank the importance of them to you:)

Also, include a picture of yourself or your whole family... if you have one while farming, that would be great:)

Once you have the letter, your note & your capture... simply mail it to me at:

Samantha Lamb
Early Bird Acres
RR#1 Box 126
Hobart, Ok. 73651

.... I shall be bundling them all up in one readable packet for Congressman Frank Lucas, & making duplicates for his two offices...I am one serious peach folks:)

If you simply want to send over your pic & note via e-mail, you are also welcome do that.. I would be more than happy to print them out & include them in the packet:)

The Ag Committee goes back into legislation around the 14th, so I really really REALLY need these ASAP... just sit down with your cup of coffee...or tea... or your during of choice, write your not, include a pic....& send it my way loves:)

Cover your hands in a bit of dirt:) you can email me with any question loves... I mean it... this as sure as the day can make a impression...

Dirt is the theme for the next week by the way... be expecting a post nearly every day:)

I love you and so does this land:)

Morning, Milk Pails & waiting for Ohio to Freshen,

Farm Life... With the Whole-Hearted & Heart Breaking...

Hello my Darlin Dears, wonderful meadow creatures that like to carry of the ends of my harvested Corn & you wonderful Gnomes that help me chase ducks,

Miss Lamb your girl whom swims in Muddy ponds Farmer here,

The peas are in heavy harvest right now...

So are the green Beans....

...& I just put away about 120 heads of corn:)

...& apparently some wild dog pack or coyotes thought it necessary to Harvest more than half of my duck flock...

.............................

Let me start from the beginning...

I recently moved my 5 week old ducks to the pasture with the lovely pond:) A muddy pond filled with red dirt, but lovely none the less:)

Fred, the Donkey, is the protector of the pasture:)

He usually... usually... does a good job at protecting the Animals...

But no more than two days I had they been in the pasture did something (a few of my farmer friends think it is a wild dog pack) get my ducks darn it...

I had been in the city for a night for a art show, & that is probably why the dogs were also not around. But I came home first thing in the morn to open up the coops and water and feed, to only find the pasture coop with the ducks was missing a door & over half were gone...

I found a few parts here & there...
..& only 5 ducks at the time..

I knew one thing though... I needed to catch the ducks that were left and return them to a coop closer to my house, but what is a girl to do when your 5 ducks that are left alive will not move from the very center of the pond?

I threw a few rocks close to the ducks, but they would only spread a bit like oil, & then come back together:) I was running late for a farming get together that was 2 hours away, and I needed to hurry. I was also a bit teary eyed over my ducks, if you can imagine...So what did I do?

The answer was in taking off all of my clothes & jumping in the muddy pond to capture them, so that is what I did:)

(no pictures for that one...sorry folks:)

I did manage to capture the 5. I then took a quick shower & was on the road towards Walnut Creek Farms:) & it was a lovely day.. & it felt good to talk to other farmers... to know I was not the only one that bad things happen to..

I returned home to find 7 others had returned back from the pasture where they must have been hiding. But what is a girl to do when your ducks are wandering around a known wild animal attack zone & it is as dark as pitch outside?

Well, I took my good old pickup and threw a sleeping bag in it and parked it by the pond, and turned on the radio and sat a flood flashlight on the roof:) I camped out by the pond...

I sat there awake for a while... I listened to Gillian Welch and watched as Harold patrolled the perimeters of the pasture...

Everyone survived the night, and that day was fathers day, & we had the pleasure of hosting everyone from the city:) It was also Ima Jean Fox's 93rd birthday:)

So needless to say, I had the family chase ducks around the pasture with me:) good times..

The ducks are all now sleeping nicely in the thick green of the grass and will soon be swimming in a man made pond that farmer Lillard is going to help me put in behind the guest cottage. I will pasture the ducks sooner or later, but for now, they shall be living around the homestead:)

Sorry I have not been blogging as much, but I promise to change that quickly:) I really do need to update y'all more often on EBA... this lovely little site is a way for my friends and family near & far to read about my adventures, so it is necessary...

Did you know I love you?:)

I sure as the morning do:

Key Lime Pie, Future Cobblestones & me missing you,

Yours Truly,

Just Add Pasta!!:)

Hello my Darlin dears, wonderful meadow creatures that nest in the wild Carrot fields & you very helpful Gnomes that make sure not a one Okra get to big to eat (as all of you Okra growers know, it can get HUGE in just a few days),

Miss Lamb your meadow meandering farmer here,

Ohhhh gosh... busy few days ahead:) Small art show in the city & then off to see some of my very wonderful farmer friends at our next "OK Farm Friends" meeting... this time it shall be at Walnut Creek Farms:)

I just adore seeing them, & I can't wait to have a bit of a round table discussion on farm legislation & the upcoming Farm Bill.

The garden that survived is doing really well:)
Note the cow & the garden dog:)

Lots growing & Thriving...

But today, can I just tell you about a dish that is very close to my heart?:)

*Pasta (any kind)
*Green beans or Young Black Eyed Peas
*Just Harvested Spring Potatoes (I chose some small reds & golds)
*& Parmesan !!

You simply saute the Potatoes & Green beans in a pan until the potatoes are slightly brown, but not too long, or your green beans will no longer be firm...

Toss it with Pasta & Sprinkle on some Parmesan.

I do this dish with nearly every Vegetable in the garden here at EBA:) Soooo good...

Maybe next time I will share my Pea Pesto Recipe? :)

Did you know I love you?

I sure as the day do:)

Dappled with Light from the tree Picnics, you bringing the wine & I shall make the cheese,

Your Truly,
